The Fraser Region Aboriginal Friendship Centre is pleased to invite our Members in Good Standing to a Special Members Meeting to provide a brief and present the Special Resolution (provided to members, and will be available at the meeting.

Surrey Social Innovation Strategy

Surrey Urban Aboriginal Initiative

The City of Surrey received funds from the British Columbia Association of Aboriginal Friendship Centres to develop an Urban Aboriginal Social Innovation Strategy. A Leadership Committee has been established to guide the project. Chaired by Councillor LeFranc, the Leadership Committee includes:

  • Aboriginal Community Career Employment Services Society (ACCESS)
  • Cwenengitel Aboriginal Society
  • Fraser Health Authority (Aboriginal Health Team)
  • First Nations Health Authority (Fraser Salish Region)
  • Fraser Region Aboriginal Friendship Centre (FRAFCA)
  • Katzie First Nation
  • Kekinow Native Housing Society
  • Kwantlen First Nation
  • Kwikwetlem First Nation
  • Metis Child and Family Services
  • Metro Vancouver Aboriginal Executive Council (MVAEC)
  • Ministry of Children and Family Development (Circle 5)
  • Semiahmoo First Nation
  • Surrey RCMP
  • Surrey School District 36 (District Principal Aboriginal Education)
  • Xyolhemeylh Child and Family Services

The Strategy will identify issues, needs, and priorities of Surrey’s Urban Aboriginal community, and will assist in leveraging investments for Aboriginal organizations in Surrey.

The Leadership Committee, stakeholders and Aboriginal community members were engaged in the development of the strategiy including:

Research
development of priority issue fact sheets
Stakeholder Interviews
Community Consultation (Focus Groups and a Solutions Workshop)
The Strategy will be completed in late March 2016.
