Meet Our Prenatal Team!
Corina Bye Prenatal Facilitator
Corina is a descendant of Welsh, Norwegian, and German settlers to O©eti §aúowiñ territory in southern Saskatchewan. . She followed her family’s migration across the west and is very grateful to be a guest resident upon the land of the Fraser Salish people.
Healing pieces of her own story, Corina became inspired to work towards giving back the care she had received on her path, and became educated in social service work at Langara College in 2000. As she engaged in the field as a helper, she was humbled by the courage and richness of the individual and collective stories shared with her, by people in First Nations communities in particular. By 2002 Corina birthed her first child (of three), and this transformation altered the direction of her career. Having been awakened to the power of birth, and having suffered from a debilitating postpartum mood disorder, she again became activated on the healing path. Because of this she dedicated many of the following years as a passionate student of birth and mothering. She studied through official avenues such as DONA International, getting trained as a birth and postpartum doula, and as a certified Lamaze Instructor learning current research based recommendations for birthing families Later her training as a “Birthing From Within” mentor helped to connect her with the emotional, spiritual, and psychological process. Corina has made continued education a priority, learning the art of placenta preparation as well as perinatal massage, and personal training for pre/postnatal women. However she feels the most significant teachings have come from the hundreds of birthing families she has walked beside over the last 8 years as doula and facilitator. She has come to know birth itself as the most powerful teacher. Corina strives to bring a message of faith back to women about the inherent nature of birth and parenting, and the vitality of the life givers.
Throughout these years Corina has always held on to a deep reverence for Aboriginal teachings regarding issues facing our Mother Earth. She became particularly inspired by the shift that “Idle No More” brought. She began to step back in to activism as an ally of the great work being done by our First Nations communities. She hopes she is being a respectful participant in the process of Reconciliation, and is an avid supporter of ideas around decolonization. She is excited about the potential this has for healing birth practices as well as our society. Corina is a firm believer that Indigenous leadership is what it will take to overcome the challenges facing the planet. Therefore, when she was invited to come on to the wonderful team at FRAFCA, she did so with deep gratitude.
