FRAFCA Property Maintenance Worker (PT)

The Surrey is one of 21 municipalities in Metro Vancouver, British Columbia. Located on the Lower Mainland south of the Fraser River, Surrey shares a border with the United States. Position Summary:

The Part-Time Property Maintenance Worker plays a key role in ensuring the safety, functionality, and appearance of all FRAFCA facilities. This position is responsible for routine inspections, preventative maintenance, repairs, vendor coordination, and supporting operational needs across multiple sites.

The successful candidate will be hands-on, safety-focused, organized, and capable of working independently while contributing positively to a team environment.

Key Responsibilities:

Facility Maintenance & Inspections

  • Conduct monthly site inspections across all FRAFCA locations
  • Perform general building upkeep including:
    • Doors, locks, lighting
    • HVAC systems
    • Plumbing and minor electrical
    • Drywall and painting
    • Carpentry and shelving
    • Yards and lawn maintenance
  • Complete maintenance and repair requests through the FRAFCA ticketing system
  • Identify and report major and minor repair needs
  • Conduct annual deep cleaning (Ex: pressure washing buildings)
  • Perform snow removal and salting of parking areas
  • Maintain storage areas and sea cans in clean and organized condition
  • Support set-up and take-down during FRAFCA organised community events
  • Assist with furniture purchasing, moving, delivery, and assembly
  • Maintain and coordinate servicing of FRAFCA vehicles
  • Respond to or coordinate support during facility-related emergencies
  • Support programming activities requiring moderate physical labour

Vendor Coordination & Procurement:

  • Assess maintenance issues and determine whether repairs can be completed internally or require a qualified external service provider
  • When work falls outside of personal skillset, certification, or safety scope, coordinate with approved external vendors, including but not limited to:
    • Locksmiths
    • Licensed plumbers
    • Electricians
    • Carpenters
    • HVAC technicians
    • Appliance repair technicians
    • Roofing contractors
    • Landscaping contractors
    • Fire safety and alarm system service providers
  • Obtain quotes when required and communicate recommendations to management
  • Follow FRAFCA’s internal procurement procedures, including:
    • Preparing and submitting Purchase Orders (POs)
    • Completing cheque request forms
    • Submitting invoices for approval and reconciliation
  • Monitor vendor performance and ensure work meets safety and quality standards
  • Maintain organized digital and physical records of maintenance activities, vendor communications, and expenses

Qualifications & Experience:

Education

  • High school diploma or equivalent required

Experience (Required)

  • Minimum two (2) years of verifiable property or facilities maintenance experience in a professional office, corporate, nonprofit, institutional, or commercial environment (self-employed or informal residential-only experience will not be considered sufficient on its own)
  • Experience supporting multi-site facilities or community-based organizations is an asset

Technical Skills

  • Working knowledge of:
    • Basic plumbing, minor electrical repairs, drywall, painting, carpentry
    • HVAC systems and general building systems
    • Construction materials and preventative maintenance practices
  • Ability to safely operate maintenance tools and equipment
  • Strong understanding of workplace health and safety standards

Administrative & Computer Skills (Required)

  • Basic to intermediate computer literacy
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) or similar software
  • Ability to use email and digital maintenance ticketing systems
  • Ability to complete Purchase Orders, cheque requests, and maintain electronic records accurately
  • Comfortable communicating with vendors and management in writing

Certifications:

  • WHMIS certification
  • First Aid certification
  • Fall protection or other safety training
  • Recognized trade certification (or) formal maintenance-related training from an accredited institution is required

Additional Requirements:

  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s License – required
  • Clean driver’s abstract
  • Ability to lift and move heavy objects
  • Physical stamina to perform manual tasks
